Who we are

Our website address is eseh2025.com. ESEH 2025 is the 13th Conference from the European Society for Environmental History. This website is maintained by the partner and host instututions for the conference. A list of those institutions and their roles can be found on the About page.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the website, we collect the information displayed in the comment form as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash value) may be sent to the Gravatar service to determine whether you are registered there. The privacy policy for the Gravatar service can be found at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture will appear publicly along with your comment.

Media

If you are uploading images to the site, please avoid uploading images where the EXIF data includes GPS location data. Visitors to the website can download and retrieve all positioning data from images on the website.

Cookie files

If you leave a comment on our website, you can choose to save your name, email address and website address in cookie files. This is for your convenience so that you don’t have to fill in this information again the next time you post a comment. These cookies are valid for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts them. This cookie does not contain any personal data and it disappears when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also create several cookie files to save information about your login and your screen layout design choices. Login cookies are valid for two days and layout selection cookies are valid for one year. If you tick “Remember me”, your cookie will remain for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be deleted.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie file will be saved in your browser. This cookie file contains no personal data but only indicates the post ID of the article you just edited and expires after 24 hours.

What data we process and why

We use a web analytics platform to improve our website. we have chosen to disable tracking cookies and to anonymise your IP address in order to maximize respect for your privacy.

If you choose to sign up to our mailing list to receive updates on news about the conference, your name and email will be saved to our list via a subscription plugin, which generates automatic confirmation emails for new subscribers and records IP addresses. Admins to the site have access to the subscription list data. At any time you are free to cancel your subscription to the mailing list.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we keep your data

If you write a comment, the comment and its metadata will be saved indefinitely. The reason for this is that we need to be able to find and approve follow-up comments automatically and not queue them for review.

For users who register on your website (if any), we also save the personal data they enter in their user profile. All users can view, edit or delete their personal data at any time (with the exception that they cannot change their username). Even site administrators can see and edit this information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account or have posted any comments on this website, you can request an export file of the personal data we hold about you, including any information you have provided to us. You can also request that we delete all personal data we have about you. This does not include any data that we are required to save for administrative, legal or security purposes.
